Alberta man charged with flight from police

The man is also charged with theft over $5,000 after the OPP responded to the theft of a motor vehicle

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Sept. 20, 2018, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a motor vehicle on Highway 11, in Grenfell Township, Ontario. Assisting with the response were the OPP Canine Unit (K9) and Emergency Response Team (ERT).

As a result of the investigation, Simon Kurgan, 29-years-old of Alberta, has been charged with:

  • Theft Over $5,000 contrary to section 334(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Flight while being pursued by Police contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing. The investigation is ongoing.
