Parking rates at the Timmins airport are going up.

The change affects people leaving their vehicle at the Victor M. Power Airport for a full day or extended period of time, according to the City of Timmins. Hourly parking rates are staying the same.

The new daily parking rate is $12 instead of the previous $10. The weekly parking rate is now $62, up from the previous $50 rate for seven consecutive days.

The new fees are effective April 1, 2021.

"Residents are reminded that parking in front of the terminal is prohibited and automobile congestion can be an issue. The curb lane is a Fire Route and vehicles will be ticketed. Instead, we ask that people park in the vehicle lot (free for [the] first hour), wait on the east side access road and have your passenger call for pick up, or continue to circle the parking road and wait for a spot in our 15-minute parking outside the terminal," reads the city announcement.

The price for parking passes downtown Timmins also increased recently.

A monthly pass is now $50 plus HST, which is an increase of $5 over the past price. The change will see the cost for monthly parking passes increase by $5 every year to $2025 when the monthly cost to park in a downtown parking lot will be $75.

Parking fines have also increased.

The new price is $16 if paid within the first five days, and $20 after. The previous fine was $8 for the early-pay option and $12 after.

The fee changes were approved by council last year.
