The City of Timmins Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) is advocating for accessible taxi service in Timmins, and needs your support.

On Sept. 20, MAAC and Overland Custom Coach will have an accessible minivan on display in downtown Timmins. The committee is taking advantage of the popular Urban Market to showcase the vehicle, and members are hoping for a show of support from the community. The group will be located in front of the Seniors’ Centre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’ve been trying to bring an accessible taxi to Timmins for some time, but we need to show the local taxi companies that there is a demand, and we really need the community’s support for this,” said MAAC Chair Dan McKay. “MAAC has money to invest in the company willing to offer this service in our community.”

“The plan is to have the vehicle showcased at our downtown Urban Market and we are inviting the local taxi companies, media, and all agencies that use accessible vehicles to come down and check it out up close and in person,” added MAAC member and Operations Supervisor of Timmins Transit Jamie Millions.
