A Thanksgiving Wish From Brigitte Labby - ALS Northeastern Ontario

“I travel all across Northeastern Ontario, from Parry Sound, Nipissing, Iroquois Falls to Sault. Ste. Marie.....including Manitoulin & St. Joseph Island....... My work entails year round travel, for I help support the many people living with ALS today in NE Ontario...they are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, daughters and sons, they are teachers, accountants, tradesmen, miners, some are retired, many are not. They are strong, kind, brave, yet tired, exhausted and scared. ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) is a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed. Nearly 1200 are diagnosed and living with ALS in Ontario. Sadly, every day two or three Canadians die of the disease. I advocate, I teach, I listen, I educate, I support, I learn......but mostly, I am grateful and thankful, I am thankful for the entire team of passionate individuals that help them along the way (PSW's, nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers and more.....) and the countless volunteers, local groups and organizations across the province. I am thankful, for my team of colleagues at ALS Canada, my family, and lastly my daughters for supporting my long days away....lucky I am blessed.....Happy Thanksgiving to all!
