8 new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday

Eight new COVID-19 cases are being reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region today (June 26). 

There are six cases in the James Bay area and two people are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

The exposure of six cases is under investigation and two people are the contacts of a case. 

To date, there have been 2,026 confirmed cases of the virus. As of yesterday, at least 1,874 are recovered and 29 people have died. While the health unit reports new cases on the weekend, the number of recoveries is not updated.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
