66 charges laid in weekend blitz

Charges include tobacco tax violations, disobey stop sign, and other traffic violations

KIRKLAND LAKE - From Friday, Aug. 31, to Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in the Labour Day long weekend traffic initiative throughout the Kirkland Lake area.

During the traffic initiative, a total of 66 charges were laid. There were two distracted driving violations.

The charges include 49 speeding violations, two Tobacco Tax Violations Act and 11 other traffic related violations including disobey stop sign, fail to surrender insurance card, drive without licence plate, a Small Vessel Regulation violation and an impaired operation charge.

There were neither any serious personal injury collisions nor fatalities on the local highways, waterways and trails.
