Eighteen COVID-19 cases have been added to the Porcupine Health Unit's overall numbers today (June 28), although only six of those are new cases.

Since the last update on Friday there have also been 44 recoveries.

All of the six new cases are in the James Bay area. The exposure of five cases is under investigation and one person is the contact of a case. Twelve cases have been added to the overall numbers as part of the organization's data clearing.

"These added cases are no longer active, but the total number of cases has been revised on the website to reflect the accurate number of cases," reads the health unit bulletin.

Local businesses are reporting that the region is moving to Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen on Wednesday, June 30. Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton is providing an update to media this afternoon about the "gradual approach" to Step Two.

To date, there have been 2,054 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 1,918 are recovered and 29 people have died. There are 107 known active cases — 9 in Timmins, 91 in the James Bay region, six in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and 1 in the Kapuskasing area.

So far, at least 47,797 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 224 from yesterday's report. There have been 79,119 doses of the vaccines administered. These numbers are the same as Friday's report.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
