6 new COVID-19 cases reported Friday

Six new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (July 2).

There have also been 20 recoveries since the numbers were last updated on Wednesday, June 30.

All of the new cases are in Timmins. The health unit recently stopped reporting the exposure of new cases.

To date, there have been 2,075 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 1,956 are recovered and 29 people have died. There are 70 known active cases — 11 in Timmins, 55 in the James Bay area, and four in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

So far, at least 48,046 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 70 from yesterday's report. There have been 81,954 doses of the vaccines administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
