5 more COVID-19 cases reported in Timmins

Five additional COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit this afternoon, bringing the total number of cases reported today to 12.

All of the new cases are in Timmins. 

Three of the people are the contact of a confirmed case and the exposure of two cases is under investigation, according to the health unit.

To date, there have been 627 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 468 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 133 known active cases.

This afternoon, the Porcupine Health Unit also declared outbreaks at Friends Forever Childcare Centre and Newmont Porcupine Dome Mine. Each of the locations has two confirmed cases that are linked to the workplace.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
