Almost 30 basketball teams from across Northern Ontario are competing in Timmins this weekend.

Action for the 48th Annual Zenon Ziemba Basketball Tournament hosted by O’Gorman High School starts this morning at 11:30 a.m. when the senior Knights take on Kapuskasing. Games will be played today and tomorrow at OHS, O’Gorman Intermediate, Timmins High, Theriault, and Northern College.

This year’s draw features 15 senior and 14 junior teams.

“It’s not the largest (draw), but it’s one of the largest draws we’ve had in the last couple years,” said Doug Basso, OHS athletic director and senior boys’ assistant coach.

“We’ve got pretty well all the top teams from the major cities in the northeast.”

For basketball fans wanting to take in some of the games, entrance is free.

“We’d love to have everyone and see the great basketball action. There’s no cover charge, so come on out and enjoy the free entertainment,” Basso said.

The championship will be played tomorrow at O’Gorman, with the junior action at 5 p.m. and the seniors competing at 7 p.m.

Games at O'Gorman will be livestreamed here.
