40 new COVID cases, 52 recoveries reported Wednesday

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting 40 new COVID-19 cases and 52 recoveries today (June 2).

There are 21 cases in Timmins and 19 in the James Bay area. 

The exposure of 37 cases is under investigation and three people are the contacts of a case, according to the health unit. 

To date in the Porcupine Health Unit region, there have been 1,433 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. Of those, there have been 1,097 recoveries and 27 people have died. There are 309 known active cases — 156 in Timmins, 98 in the James Bay region, 42 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, seven people in Hearst and Hornepayne, two in the Kapuskasing area, and four people out of region.

So far, 45,091 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 785 from yesterday. There have been 50,571 doses of the vaccine administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.

There is a provincial shutdown and stay-at-home order in effect until at least June 2.
