40 new COVID-19 cases reported today

Forty new COVID-19 cases are being reported today by the Porcupine Health Unit.

There are 26 cases in Timmins, seven in the James and Hudson Bay region, six in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and one in the Kapuskasing area. 

The exposure of 26 cases is under investigation, eight people are the contacts of a case, and six cases are related to an outbreak, according to the health unit. 

To date, there have been 1,062 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. As of yesterday, 709 were recovered and 26 people have died. While the health unit announces new confirmed cases on the weekends, the number of recoveries is not reported.

vaccination blitz, including a walk-in clinic at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre today, is being held this weekend in Timmins.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
