4 new COVID-19 cases, potential exposure advisory issued

Four new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (July 8).

All of the new cases are in the James Bay area.

A potential exposure advisory has also been issued for Ontario Northland bus routes. 

The low-risk exposure is for Ontario Northland buses:

  • Tuesday, July 6 - Toronto Yorkdale bus terminal to Sudbury with a scheduled departure time of 8:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 6 - Sudbury to Timmins, with a scheduled departure time of 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 6 - Timmins to Hearst, with a scheduled departure time of 10:30 p.m.

As a precaution, travellers should self-monitor for 14 days, which ends on Tuesday, July 20. If you experience symptoms, self-isolate at home and call the health unit at 705-360-4819 or 1-800-461-1818.

To date, there have been 2,091 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 2,028 are recovered and 29 people have died. There are 34 known active cases — 6 in Timmins, 24 in the James Bay area, 3 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and 1 in Hearst, Hornepayne.

So far, at least 48,530 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 73 from yesterday's report. There have been 85,625 doses of the vaccines administered. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
