3 new COVID-19 cases, 1 delta variant reported

Three new COVID-19 cases and one delta variant are being reported this evening.

One of the new cases is in Timmins and two are in the James Bay area, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

The exposure of two cases is under investigation and one person is the contact of a case.

The health unit has also received confirmation that one previous case from Timmins is the delta variant (B.1.617.2). There have now been 30 confirmed cases of the highly transmissible delta variant in the region.

To date, there have been 1,972 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,797 are recovered and 29 people have died. There are 146 known active cases.

There is a drop-in, pop-up vaccination clinic today from 3-8 p.m. at the W. Earle Miller Public School parking lot in Timmins and in Iroquois Falls at the Bargain Shop parking lot from 3-8 p.m. Both clinics are using the Pfizer vaccine and are for first or second doses.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
