3 new cases, 1 death and 4 recoveries reported Thursday

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting one new death related to COVID-19 in the region.

The health unit also reported three new confirmed cases of the virus and four recoveries.

Two of the new cases are in Timmins area and one case is in the James Bay area.

The health unit also reported that three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Timmins screened positive for the B1.617.2 variant, also known as the Delta variant. There are now 42 cases with the Delta variant confirmed in the PHU region.

"Out of respect for the families, no further information will be shared. We extend our deepest condolences to their families and friends during this difficult time," reads today's update.

To date, there have been 2,144 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 2,099 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 14 known active cases — two in Timmins and 12 in the James Bay area.

So far, 51,664 people have been vaccinated. There have been 99,203 doses of the vaccines administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
