3 more COVID cases confirmed, 5 previous cases variants of concern

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting three more COVID-19 cases.

These are in addition to the three cases announced this afternoon, bringing the total cases reported today to six. 

For the new cases, there is one case each in Timmins, the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and the Hearst, Hornepayne area. All of the people are in self-isolation, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

Five previously reported cases have also screened positive for a variant of concern.

One of the cases was in Timmins and four are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. All of the people are in isolation and following public health recommendations.

The health unit expects the variant is the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7). No further testing will be done.

To date, there have been 418 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 345 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 48 known active cases.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
