21 new COVID-19 cases, 11 recoveries reported Friday

There are 21 new COVID-19 cases and 11 recoveries being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (June 18).

Sixteen cases are in the James Bay area, four are in Timmins and one person is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. 

The exposure of 14 cases is under investigation and seven people are the contacts of a case.

To date, there have been 1,938 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,630 are recovered and 27 people have died. There are 281 known active cases — 27 in Timmins, 239 in the James Bay region, 11 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and four in the Kapuskasing area.

So far, at least 46,971 people have been vaccinated. There have been 61,855 doses of the vaccines administered. These numbers are the same as what the health unit reported yesterday.

There is a drop-in, pop-up clinic today from 3-8 p.m. at the Gillies Lake conservation building in Timmins. It is the Pfizer vaccine and for first or second doses.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
