20 new COVID cases reported in Timmins area

Twenty new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. 

Since the health unit's last report Friday, there have been nine recoveries. 

For the new cases, 15 are in Timmins and five people are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. Fifteen people are the contact of a case, one is related to an outbreak and the exposure of four cases is under investigation, according to the health unit. All of the people are in self-isolation.

To date, there have been 580 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region. Of those, 441 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 113 known active cases.

So far, 27,437 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 995 since last week. There have been 28,573 doses of the vaccine administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
