2 new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday

Two new COVID-19 cases and no recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Aug. 31).

Both of the new cases are in the James Bay area.

To date, there have been 2,172 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 2,128 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 13 known active cases — nine in Timmins, one in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and three in the James Bay area.

So far, 50,409 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. There have been 94,034 doses of the vaccine administered in the region. Both of these numbers are the same as Friday's report.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
