2 new COVID-19 cases reported Monday

Two new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (July 12).

Since the health unit's last report on Friday, there have been 22 recoveries.

For the new cases, one is in Timmins and one is in the James Bay area.

To date, there have been 2,096 confirmed cases of the virus. Of the confirmed cases, 2,051 are recovered and 30 people have died. There are 15 known active cases — 1 in Timmins, 12 in the James Bay area, 1 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and 1 in Hearst, Hornepayne.

So far, 48,647 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 117 since Friday's report. There have been 86,650 doses of the vaccines administered. 

Today, the province announced Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen will start early, taking effect Friday, July 16. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
