2 new COVID-19 cases, no recoveries reported Friday

Two new COVID-19 cases and no recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Oct. 15).

The cases are people in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam and Fauquier-Strickland. 

To date, there have been 2,215 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 2,180 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are four known active cases — one in Timmins, one in the James Bay area, and two in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam and Fauquier-Strickland.

There are 54,995 people who have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the region, which is an increase of 303 from yesterday's report. There have been 104,718 doses administered. 

The COVID-19 vaccine passport is in effect. It requires proof of vaccination for people 12 years and older in certain high-risk public spaces.

Today, the province released new details on the digital proof-of-vaccination certificate featuring a QR code that people can use starting Oct. 22. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
