2 facing drug trafficking charges in separate incidents

James Bay OPP seized suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine during an arrest on April 5 in Kapuskasing.

KAPUSKASING - Two separate arrests led to drugs being seized and trafficking charges. 

Both of the incidents happened on April 5, says James Bay OPP. 

Around 9 p.m. that day, officers responding to an unwanted person call arrested the suspect on an unrelated arrest warrant. During the arrest, suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamines were seized. 

A 23-year-old woman from Kapuskasing is charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, and enter premises when entry prohibited. 

The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court on May 13. 

Earlier that day, around 3 p.m., OPP went to a call for an assault that had allegedly happened on March 30. 

The suspect in that investigation was located and during the arrest, officers seized suspected methamphetamine. 

A 51-year-old man from Kapuskasing is charged with schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, schedule I substance - methamphetamine, and assault causing bodily harm.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
