16-year-old faces theft, stolen property charges following a series of fraudulent purchases

The Timmins Police Service has arrested a local youth stemming from a series of offences allegedly committed by the young person over the course of the previous two week span of time.

It is alleged that the youth was involved in an incident at a convenience store on Wednesday, June 19, where a 15-year-old is alleged to have been assaulted.

It is further alleged that the youth was allegedly in possession of a stolen credit card and made a series of fraudulent purchases with the card at a local convenience store and restaurants.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers completed a comprehensive investigation into the incidents.

Based on the investigation, the identity of the suspect was determined. The suspect was located and arrested on June 27 while Timmins Police Service officers were responding to a separate incident and recognized the suspect.

As a result of this incident, a 16-year-old youth who cannot be named in keeping with Youth Criminal Justice Act, was taken into custody and is charged with

  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Three counts of possession of stolen credit card contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two count of fail to comply with sentence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
