16 new COVID-19 cases, 8 recoveries reported today

Sixteen new COVID-19 cases and eight recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today. 

Fifteen of the cases are in Timmins and one is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. 

Twelve people are the contacts of confirmed cases and the exposure of four is under investigation.

To date, there have been 787 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 586 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 175 known active cases. 

So far, 35,046 people have been vaccinated and 36,384 dose have been administered. Both of these numbers are the same as yesterday.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
