KIRKLAND LAKE – On October 14, 2016, shortly after 7:20 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a vehicle which occurred in Larder Lake, Ontario. The vehicle was described as 2015 Ford F-150 red in color.

On the morning of October 15, 2016, Temiskaming OPP received a complaint of stolen fuel at a local gas station on Highway 11 in Temiskaming. The descriptors of the vehicle involved matched those of the reported stolen vehicle. 

Later that morning, the vehicle was observed by the North Bay OPP on Highway 11, north of North Bay and attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful. 

Then at approximately 11:30 am., the vehicle was observed by the North Bay Police Service at which time a short pursuit was initiated and called off for public safety reasons.  The vehicle was again observed in the West Nipissing area where West Nipissing Police Service successfully arrested the youth.

A 15-year-old male, who cannot be named pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), from Larder Lake, Ontario, was arrested and charged for the following offences:

Kirkland Lake OPP

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle as per Criminal Code (CC)

  • Fail to Comply as per Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)

Temiskaming OPP

  • Theft of Gas as per CC

North Bay OPP

  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle as per CC

  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer as per CC

  • Fail to Comply with Sentence as per YCJA (x2)

North Bay Police Service

  • Flight from police as per YCJA

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle as per YCJA

  • Breach of probation as per YCJA (x2)

  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop as per Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

  • Drive – no licence as per HTA

West Nipissing Police Service

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime as per CC

  • Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle as per CC

  • Flight from Police as per CC

  • Mischief Over $5000 as per CC

  • Fail to Comply as per YCJA (x2)

The accused was summoned to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
