10 charged after 'significant quantity' of fentanyl seized during drug bust

The Timmins Police Service has charged a number of persons stemming from a comprehensive drug investigation which culminated with the arrests of ten people on the evening of Wednesday, July 17.

Timmins Police Service – Drug Enforcement Section officers, working in collaboration with the Timmins Police – Criminal Investigations Division, engaged in a drug related investigation which led to the execution of search warrants at three Timmins residences during the late afternoon hours of July 17.

A total of 10 persons have been arrested, in regards to these matters. The search warrants yielded the seizure of:
    •    a significant quantity of fentanyl (‘purp’)
    •    methamphetamine tablets
    •    cocaine
    •    over $15,000 in Canadian currency
    •    a 10 mm handgun
    •    a prohibited weapon
    •    an assortment of drug paraphernalia

Search warrants were executed in an orchestrated manner at a Birch Street South address, an Elm Street South address, and a Evans Street (South Porcupine) residence. As a result of this incident, the following persons have been arrested, charged, and in all but one instance, held for a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

David Evans, 19, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Shawn Ranoo, 22, of Scarborough, has been charged with:
    •    two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    fail to comply with undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Jamie-Lynn Robitaille, 32, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Justin Lazarus, 33, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

This accused person has been released from police custody but must attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Sept. 3 to answer to the charge laid against him.

Additionally, Sabrina Dobani, 19, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of loaded prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Sierra Sky Michelle George, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of loaded prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Kamar Martin-Gillette, 18, of York, Ontario has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of loaded prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of firearm contrary to a prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Richard ‘Kurt’ Robitaille, 44, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of loaded prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of firearm contrary to a prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Brooklyn Mercieca, 18, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of loaded prohibited or restricted weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of firearm contrary to a prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of careless storage of firearm or ammunition contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Edgar Turgeon, 30, of Timmins, has been charged with
    •    three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
    •    possession of property obtained by crime - over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Recent events have drawn into sharp focus the detrimental effects of these substances. With this in mind, the Timmins Police Service is renewing its appeal for citizens to report any suspicious persons or activity directly to the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or to report drug activity by means of the Crime Stopper program at 1-800-222-8477.
