1 new COVID-19 case, 5 recoveries reported Monday

One new COVID-19 case and five recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Nov. 8). 

The new case is a person in Timmins. 

There is currently one known case in a student at Ecole catholique St-Gérard in Timmins. According to Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivieres one class is in isolation. 

To date, there have been 2,236 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 2,197 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are eight known active cases — seven in Timmins and one in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

There are 55,910 people who have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the region, which is an increase of 45 from the last report on Friday. There have been 107,463 doses administered.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
