Timmins mine deemed 'safe to return to work' after fatal incident

Authorities have deemed it safe for people to return to work after a fatal incident underground, according to Lake Shore Gold.

Yesterday, there was a fatal incident involving a contractor at the company’s Timmins West Mine.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 1. A review of the scene was completed around 10 p.m. In a news release today (Jan. 2), Lake Shore Gold said authorities have deemed it “safe to return to work.”

“Authorities are continuing their investigation and we will provide more information should it become available,” reads the statement.

Police and the Ministry of Labour are investigating.
