The Toronto gold company reported in a Sept. 29 news release that an individual employed by a contractor was found unconscious near the workers accommodations complex on Friday morning. Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful and the person was declared dead.

The company said the individual was not on shift or engaged in any mining or constructed-related work.

"As the investigation proceeds, the family, friends and colleagues of the individual are foremost in our thoughts, and we are focused on providing them with the support they need at this difficult time."

The open-pit mine project is nearing completion with first gold pour scheduled in early 2024.
