Guac Mexi Grill opening in Timmins tomorrow

It is located at 370 Algonquin Blvd.

A new restaurant featuring fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine will open its doors in Timmins tomorrow.

Starting Tuesday, April 20, Guac Mexi Grill will be accepting orders for takeout and delivery. The restaurant is located at 370 Algonquin Blvd. E.

The owners are cousins Sankalp Patel and Akash Patel. Akash came to Timmins three years ago to study an environmental technician program at Northern College, while Sankalp moved from Calgary last fall to open up the business venture with his cousin.

Both of them have business management experience, they said.

“I’m happy and excited to open it up tomorrow and we welcome all the Timmins people and the community around here. Hopefully, it’ll be a blasting day,” Akash Patel said.

The menu features burritos, tacos, fiesta potatoes, quesadillas, nachos, dessert like churro and brownies as well as a variety of toppings, fillings and sauces. According to the owners, all food is made from scratch using fresh natural ingredients and no preservatives or additional flavours are used.

"I think that is something people like these days and that's something they want in the food," said Sankalp Patel. "I hope they will like it."

Orders can be placed by phone. There are also 10 to 15 parking spots available.

The construction, which started in December, was put on hold because of the pandemic and resumed in March, the owners said. There are currently three to five employees hired locally.

“We’re glad we got an opportunity to bring this kind of food. I’m here to serve the people, what they want and this is something I’m happy about,” Sankalp Patel said.

The current hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday.
