Day on the greens raises cash for hospital foundation

Newmont Porcupine hosted a charity golf tournament for the hospital foundation

A charity golf tournament helped raise cash for the hospital foundation.

Last month, Newmont Porcupine hosted a charity golf tournament to support the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation to buy high-priority equipment. The fun-filled day brought in $41,160, which includes a surprise boost of $18,000 from AIM Recycling.

"Health is one of our investment priorities here at Newmont Porcupine. Supporting the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation is important to us knowing that the funds generated ensure the best healthcare possible for our community, our families and our teams," said Dawid Pretorius, Newmont Porcupine general manager, in a news release.

As a family-owned business, AIM Recycling sales manager Kevin Easson said it's proud to partner with Newmont to support the foundation.

"Our goal is to not only be a leader throughout our industry but to inspire those throughout the communities we operate within to live responsibly and reach their full potential. We are excited to be a part of the fundraising efforts and honoured to have been given the opportunity to help contribute to TADH’s mission of improving the health of Northerners," said Easson.

For Kate Fyfe, Timmins and District Hospital president and CEO, the tournament's success "reinforces what is possible and what we can accomplish when we work together to provide exemplary care closer to home."

The hospital foundation says third-party fundraisers are an option for individuals or groups.

"Our community is filled with individuals with a passion to help their community and choosing to support the Hospital helps everyone. The Foundation is grateful for the support we get from our business community," said Barb McCormick, TADHF manager of donor relations.
