Fishing the North: Lund Angler Young Angler Tournament wrap up (5 photos)

Tournament a true testament of how anglers/tournament anglers today look at our fisheries to ensure the future for other generations of anglers to enjoy the sport of fishing as they are now

Anglers and young anglers awoke to an overcast morning for the Lund Angler Young Angler Tournament hosted by Guiho Saw Sales and Marine Ltd. held at Cache Campground on Kenogamissi Sea in Timmins last Saturday.

Although the forecast called for some showers throughout the day, Mother Nature was kind enough to only send a couple of brief light sprinkles the during the day.

This made for another great day for anglers and their young anglers to compete in.

I had the privilege, once again, to tour the area throughout the day taking pictures with Lund Pro Staffer Craig Salmonson in his Lund 202GL powered by his 300 HP. Mercury outboard.

Mid-way through the day, Captain John Labine arrived at the weigh scales with young angler Ada Dagg Labine and Nolan Dagg Labine to weigh-in their two good fish – a 7.5 and a 3.5 pound walleye.

After weighing these fish, Lund pro staffer Craig Salmonson and myself brought these fish back out to the main channel of the reservoir to be released rather than releasing them in the shallower, warmer bay were weigh-in was located.

Releasing them back into the deeper main channel helped ensure these fish a successful release, and they both gave a final face wash to Craig before heading back down into the depths.

As the boats started coming in at the end of the day, you could tell by the smiles on the faces of the young anglers that everyone had a fun day on the water.

While weights were being tallied up, anglers enjoyed their pizza and cool drinks.

After the amazing prizes each young angler received where given out the top three teams of the tournament were announced.

They are as follows :

First place - Team Labine 13 lbs
Captain John Labine
Young angler Ada Dagg Labine, age 14
Young angler Nolan Dagg Labine, age 11

The anglers in this tournament and also other tournaments know the importance of keeping our fisheries healthier by the way their fish are looked after in their live-wells.

All except for six smaller walleye were successfully released back into the water system to swim and grow another day.

This is a true testament of how anglers/tournament anglers today look at our fisheries to ensure success for future generations of anglers to enjoy the sport of fishing as they are now.

Thanks go to all the anglers and youngers for competing in this event, Guiho Saw Sales and Marine Ltd. for hosting another successful tournament event, Lund Boats for continuing to hold the Lund Angler Young Angler Tournaments, and the Cache Campground for their continue support and hospitably for this event.
