This Saturday, Canadian residents will have the opportunity to fish for free thanks to Canada's National Fishing Week, sponsored by the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association.

National Fishing Week runs from June 30 to July 8. During this week, many people will be casting their lines out from coast to coast in hopes of catching the big one.

Although catching the big one would be nice, the main reason for this free Fishing Week is to encourage people to get outside and enjoy our beautiful waters and forest.

This is a great way to escape electronics even for a day to reconnect with family and friends.

The program allows first-time anglers, or those that haven't fished in some time, the opportunity to connect with nature again and appreciate Canada's vast natural environment.

As you start to unwind on the water or while fishing from shore, you'll start to recognize the mental and physical benefits of the sport of fishing.

Over the last three years, I have had the opportunity to meet many new anglers during this week while handing out some rod and reel combos courtesy of the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association.

With the long range weather forecast for next week looking favourable in the Timmins area, be sure to plan an outing to set some hooks with friends and family. What better way to start building memories than spending a beautiful day or evening on the water with the ones you love while enjoying a nice fresh fish fry that evening with the fish you had caught yourself.
