LIVE: Repatriation ceremony held for six CAF members killed in helicopter crash

This afternoon, a repatriation ceremony will take place for the six Canadian Armed Forces members killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of Greece during Operation REASSURANCE.

 

Following the ceremony, the motorcade will proceed from CAF Base Trenton to Toronto, via the Highway of Heroes.

Six military personnel were aboard the helicopter when it went down in the Mediterranean Sea as it was returning to the Halifax-based frigate, HMCS Fredericton.

The body of Sub-Lt. Abigail Cowbrough, a marine systems engineering officer originally from Toronto, has been recovered. 

Other victims of the crash include Capt. Brenden Ian MacDonald, originally from New Glasgow, N.S., and Capt. Kevin Hagen, originally from Nanaimo, B.C., both pilots.

The three others who were on board the helicopter are Capt. Maxime Miron-Morin, an air combat systems officer originally from Trois-Rivières, Que., naval weapons officer Sub-Lt. Matthew Pyke, who is from Truro, N.S., and Master Corporal Matthew Cousins, an airborne electronic sensor operator from Guelph, Ont.
