Three representatives from the Masonic Foundation of Ontario presented a $25,000 donation to the Northern College Foundation at the college’s Timmins Campus today.

The donation will be used to create an annual bursary for Northern College students.

Ian MacPherson, John Mavrinac and Wayne Nelson, representing the Temiskaming District Masons, joined Northern College President Fred Gibbons and Northern College Foundation Manager Doug Clark in the Timmins Campus atrium to present the donation.

“Scholarships, bursaries and grants are some of the best tools that we have for making post-secondary education more affordable for our students,” says Gibbons. “We’re honoured to receive this generous gift from the Masonic Foundation of Ontario, which will help countless Northern College students access post-secondary education for many years to come.”

Northern College was one of four Ontario colleges to receive a donation of $25,000 from the Masonic Foundation of Ontario this year.

The foundation has asked that the funds be used to create an annual bursary for students who have achieved a high level of academic success and are in financial need.

“It’s tragic that a lack of financial footing prevents some of our brightest minds from earning an education,” says Ian MacPherson, representing The Grand Lodge of Canada, in the Province of Ontario. “Our future leaders, pioneers and entrepreneurs will come from all walks of life, and that’s why we’re committed to helping students facing financial hardship access post-secondary education. We’re thrilled to be able to provide this donation to the Northern College Foundation in the name of making education more accessible to the people of northeastern Ontario.”

The Masonic Foundation of Ontario was established in 1964, with the goal of serving the people of Ontario for the cause of good.

The foundation uses its donations for purposes beneficial to communities in Ontario, including the relief of poverty and the advancement of education.
