NEWS RELEASE

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN TRI-AGENCY COLLABORATION

*************************
The month of November is the “Woman Abuse Prevention Month” in Ontario and the Timmins and Area Violence Against Women Tri-agency Collaboration (comprised of Centre Passerelle pour femmes, Villa RenouvEllement, Timmins and Area Women in Crisis, H.E .R. Place and Tranquility House) has created a video as part of an innovative public education and awareness campaign.

The short video created by the “Take a Stand” Committee will be shared on various social media outlets.

The campaign targets men who would like to become effective allies in eradicating violence against women by encouraging them to take a stance against violence against women.

The people involved in the project want men to recognize that they need to play a key role in eliminating sexism and violence against women.

Considering that most perpetrators of intimate partner abuse and sexual assault are men, we need to consider violence against women as a man’s issue, not as a “woman’s issue” as is traditionally thought.

The committee is proud to invite members of the Timmins and area media as well as other community members to be present for the video launch event.

The details for the event are as follows:

Date: Monday, November 3, 2014
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Location: McMillan Boardroom, 330 Second Avenue, Timmins
