Timmins city council voted unanimously on Monday to purchase a new 2000 U.S. gallon tanker for the Timmins Fire Department.

It will replace a tanker which dates back to 1974.

Mayor Tom Laughren explained to council that the purchase is long overdue.

“It was actually going to be done last year, but because of concerns with overage and snow removal we held it. Then the money was put aside," said Laughren

The City of Timmins will purchase the tanker from Dependable Emergency Vehicles of Brampton, Ontario.

The cost of the tanker is $211,000 plus HST.
