This coming weekend, June 2 and 3, will see anglers from all over come to fish the first Northern Ontario Walleye Trail event at the Mattagami First Nations Walleye Tournament.

This should be a very interesting year with anglers competing for an opportunity to qualify for the 2019 NOWT Championship.

Only the top 25 teams that do qualify for the championship will have a shot at winning the 2019 Princecraft Hudson DLX190 powered by a Mercury 150 HP four stroke outboard valued at over $55,000 thanks to Princecraft Boats, Mercury Marine Canada and J&B Cycle and Marine at a pre determined location site in 2019.

An angler does not have to fish all six tournaments to qualify for the championship as only their top three finishes will determine their points standings in the Angler of the Year (AOY) race.

Should an angler have a bad showing at one of his three tournaments this season and feels he has a chance at making the top 25 in the AOY race and qualify for the championship, he will now have an incentive to fish another event to make up for the points he needs to qualify for the championship.

If you haven't already fished one of the NOWT events and think you would like to compete for your chance at qualifying for the 2019 championship, please visit the NOWT website for more information on these six NOWT events:
    •    Mattagami First Nations Walleye Tournament: June 2 and 3
    •    Dubreuville Magpie Walleye Derby: June 9 and 10
    •    Geraldton Walleye Classic: June 23 and 24
    •    Kapuskasing River Walleye Tournament: Aug. 11 and 12
    •    Mattagami Fall Classic Walleye: Sept. 8 and 9
    •    Samamok Walleye Classic: Sept. 29 and 30

I look forward to sharing a some laughs again this season with new and familiar faces.
