Enjoy fun fishing for a good cause this weekend

In this edition of Fishing in the North, David tells us about a fishing tournament organized by the Navy League Branch of Timmins
If you enjoy ice fishing in late March, you might want to come out and try your luck in the Guiho's and Villars Bay Resort Ice Fishing Tournament on March 23.

This tournament is presented by the Navy League Branch in Timmins. Half of all funds raised from registration will be going to Project Love.

Entry fee for this tournament is $50. Registrations will be taken until 5 p.m., March 22 at Guiho Saw Sales and Marine. Anglers will also be able to register at the weigh-in site located beside the ramp onto Nighthawk Lake at Villars Bay Resort.

To get to the weigh-in site from Timmins, take Highway 101 heading east, cross the Nighthawk Bridge and watch for Retreat Road on south side. Turn right and drive to the end of Retreat Road.

If you're coming from the east, take Highway 101 and watch for Retreat Road on south side, turn left and drive to the end of Retreat Road.

For $50, anglers have a chance at winning an 8'x10' completely finished ice hut valued at approximately $4,500 for first place.

Second place is $500, sponsored by Co-Operators Timmins, and third place donated by Stihl Canada and Guihos.

Tournament hours are from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

With the long range forecast looking to be a gorgeous day on March 23, be sure to bring family and friends out for a day on the ice and start making some memories with them that will last a lifetime.
