Pan American Silver focuses on responsible and sustainable development

Since 1994, Pan American Silver (Pan American) has grown to become the second largest primary silver mining company in the world. Over the last 28 years, the company has also developed a track record of responsibly building and operating mines while growing production.

As a priority, Pan American is committed to conducting its business in a responsible and sustainable manner.

In 2021, zero significant environmental incidents were recorded at its operations and 82 per cent of the revenue generated by Pan American mines remains in the countries where it operates.

According to the company’s 2021 Sustainability Report, Pan American made improvements in its environmental performance in 2021, reducing GHG emissions by 11 per cent and achieving its target of reducing energy consumption by 7 per cent compared to the 2021 base case. It also reduced water consumption by 10 per cent compared to the 2021 base case and achieved a net positive impact on vegetation and biodiversity across all its sites.

The report also mentions that the company continues to actively engage with communities to better understand their priorities and to invest in initiatives that will provide them with lasting benefits. In addition, diversity and inclusion within the workforce are also key areas of focus.

The company is proud to have 13,768 employees and contractors, of which 95 per cent of senior management are local to the countries where the mine is located. Overall, 99 per cent of all employees are local.
