Woman sustains 'serious head injury' in assault downtown Timmins: police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with an assault related Criminal Code offence stemming from an incident that occurred during the mid-afternoon hours of Thursday, August 6 near the intersection of Third and Spruce Street South. 

The Timmins Police Service responded to a matter where a 40 year old female person physically accosted a 51 year old woman in an unprovoked manner. 

The assaulted woman was forced to the ground and sustained a serious head injury. 

The woman was transported to the Timmins and District Hospital for medical treatment. 

Upon arrival on scene, Timmins Police Service officers arrested the woman responsible for the assault without further incident having located her a short distance from the original scene. 

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Lynn Beland, 40, of no fixed address (Timmins), has been charged with: 

• Assault Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

The suspect is known to the police, however the suspect and the victim are not known to each other. 

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against her.
