Woman facing theft-related charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at a Riverside Drive big box retail store in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to an incident where a suspect had attended at the retailer and proceeded to collect various beer products and flee without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

A Timmins Police officer was on-site in regards to a separate matter when made aware that a theft had just occurred.

The responding officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the female suspect a short distance from the original scene and took her into custody.

Upon arrest, the suspect provided a false name to the police.

Based on further investigation, her true name was determined. A quantity of a controlled substance was located amongst her personal effects upon arrest.

As a result of the incident, Starr Faries, 45, of Timmins, has been charged with: 

  • Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Faries remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
