Woman accused of theft, striking grocery store employee

The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon (Jan. 12) at an Algonquin Blvd grocery store.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service yesterday at a local grocery store regarding a suspicious person who had attempted to exit the store with unpaid items in her possession.

Upon being confronted by the store manager, an altercation took place where the subject struck the store manager with a closed fist and fled the scene on foot.

The responding Timmins Police officer identified, located, and arrested the female suspect a short distance from the original scene.

As a result of the incident, Cynthia Kataquapit, 36, of No Fixed Address, has been charged with: 

  • Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada  
  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Kataquapit remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
