KIRKLAND LAKE - On April 15, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol in the Town of Kirkland Lake when they observed a person known to have a warrant for their arrest on Government Road East.

The accused was arrested and further investigation revealed that they were in possession of drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and methamphetamine.

As a result, Jason Cloutier, 35 years of age of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
    •    Fail comply with appearance notice, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused was release on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before The Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on May 20, 2021.
