Victim struck with bat during domestic dispute in Englehart: OPP

CHARLTON-DACK - On Jan. 23, 2021 shortly after 12:30 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a domestic dispute on Tenth Road in the Municipality of Charlton and Dack.

The accused allegedly struck the victim with a bat and the incident was reported to police.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated by the Temiskaming Emergency Medical Service (EMS).

As a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested. A search incident to arrest yielded a small quantity of suspected fentanyl.

A 53-year-old resident of Gowganda has been charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon - spousal, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC,
    •    Mischief - domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC, and
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused was released by way of an undertaking, and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 9, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
