Two from Kirkland Lake face trafficking charges

KIRKLAND LAKE - On July 30, 2020, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the Crime Unit from the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the (OPP) and the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant at a residence on Lebel Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and Canadian currency. Estimated street value of the seizure is $24,500.

As a result of the investigation, two people have been charged.

Jamie-Lee Briscoe, age 29 of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Aug. 4, 2020.

Luc Lacoste, age 43 of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Aug. 11, 2020.
