Two from Kapuskasing face theft, drug charges

HEARST - On April 26, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter occurrence on Riverside Drive in the Town of Kapuskasing.

Police investigation revealed that two persons had [allegedly] entered a business, stolen several items and had left.

Subsequently, police obtained warrants to search and arrest both suspects and seized personal accessories, tools, electronics, suspected methamphetamine, break in instruments, weapons and Canadian currency all with an estimated street value of $2,000.

Brian Lebel, 32 years old of Kapuskasing, Ont., has been charged with the following offences:  
    •    Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Theft under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) CC,
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355(b) CC,
    •    Mischief under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) CC,
    •    Possession of break-in instruments contrary to section 351(1) CC,
    •    Unauthorized possession of weapon contrary to section 91(2) CC,
    •    Failure to comply with release - other than to attend court contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC, and
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, on May 5, 2020, to answer to the charges.

Myriam SigouinI, 28 years old of Kapuskasing, Ont., has been charged with the following offences:
    •    Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Theft under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) CC,
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355(b) CC,
    •    Mischief under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) CC,
    •    Failure to comply with undertaking contrary to section 145(4)(a) CC,
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA).

The accused was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on June 8, 2020 to answer to the charges.
