Two face charges after Timmins woman assaulted: police

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred yesterday morning (Aug. 24) at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and McLean Drive where a 35-year-old woman was assaulted.

Based on investigation, it was determined that two suspects, who are known to police, entered into a verbal dispute with another pedestrian in the area.

The disturbance escalated into a physical altercation where a weapon was used to attempt to injure the 35-year-old female person.

The suspects were apprehended at the scene and arrested by the Timmins Police Service. The victim received medical treatment for the injury she sustained during the altercation.

Based on the ensuing investigation, Scott Nakogee, 28; and Joni Solomon, 36, both of Timmins have been charged respectively with:
    •    Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Solomon has been charged with an additional count of:
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused persons remain in police custody for the purposes of respective bail hearings slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
