Two face charges after switching seats in moving vehicle in Chapleau

COCHRANE – On Jan. 27, 2021 at approximately 8 p.m., members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop after observing the occupants of a vehicle switching seats.

As a result of further investigation, the passenger, Amanda Jean, 31-years-old, of Chapleau Township was arrested and has been charged with: 

  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.   

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane in Feb. 2021. 

The driver, a 21-year-old resident of Pickering, has been charged with:  

  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act.  

The driver was served a Provincial Offence Notice.
