Two charged with breaching stay-at-home orders during protest in Hearst

 HEARST - On April 10, 2021 at approximately 12:51 p.m. members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an organized protest in the Town of Hearst.   

Further investigation revealed that there were people in contravention of the recently implemented public health directives of the "stay-at-home order."

As a result, two persons were charged with:

  • Adult Individual - fail to comply with an order made during a declared emergency, contrary to section 7.0.11(1) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

OPP is supporting efforts to limit transmission of COVID-19, including the government - mandated shutdown and Stay at Home Order. OPP will continue to support the efforts of our bylaw officers and, in circumstances where a police response is needed, we will respond.
